Chris Roper
Chris Roper is CfA’s deputy CEO and leads the in-house ‘business of news’ portfolio. This includes overseeing CfA’s research partnerships with the Reuters Institute for Journalism’s annual Digital News Report (DNR) research in three African countries (including Kenya), and our research/training partnerships with Thomson Reuters Foundation in Africa, and Global Disinformation Index (GDI) in Africa. Prior to joining CfA, Chris was editor-in-chief of Africa’s first online newspaper, the Mail & Guardian, and also previously served as editor-in-chief of Africa’s largest online publisher, 24.com. He has served as a consulting strategist for major media organisations, including Africa’s Naspers, is a juror for pan-African media industry awards, and advises on media development programmes in Africa and beyond.
Rose Lukalo
Rose Lukalo has a wealth of experience in journalism and civic organising for the advancement of free expression, media policy and social justice in Kenya. She is also a trainer and has supported the journalism curriculum development by the Kenya Institute for Curriculum Development. She is a keen advocate for the advancement of women and co-led an international team of women journalists in the production of women-focused newspapers for many global conferences including HABITAT, Beijing, World Summit for an Information Society and others. She is a Hubert Humphrey Fellow (University of Missouri) and a Bloomberg Media in Africa Fellow.
Ken Macharia
He is Google News Initiative Teaching Fellow. With over 10 years of media experience. He has consulted for several firms and projects in the areas of: Public Relations, Editorial Services, media management, content and social media strategy and implementation, and website SEO.
