Chris
Roper is CfA’s deputy CEO and leads the in-house ‘business of news’ portfolio. This includes
overseeing CfA’s research partnerships with the Reuters Institute for Journalism’s annual
Digital News Report (DNR) research in three African countries
(including Kenya), and our research/training partnerships with
Thomson Reuters Foundation in Africa, and
Global Disinformation Index (GDI) in Africa. Prior to
joining CfA, Chris was editor-in-chief of Africa’s first online newspaper, the
Mail &
Guardian, and also previously served as editor-in-chief of Africa’s largest online publisher,
24.com. He has
served as a consulting strategist for major media organisations, including Africa’s
Naspers, is
a juror for pan-African media industry awards, and advises on media development programmes in Africa and
beyond.
